Robert Norman Munsch was born on June 11, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the second of nine children. His father was a steelworker and his mother was a homemaker. Munsch attended Fordham University in New York City, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1968. He then went on to earn a master's degree in anthropology from Boston University in 1971.

Career

Munsch began his career as a teacher in 1971. He taught at a variety of schools in the United States and Canada, including the University of Guelph in Ontario. In 1975, he began working as a storyteller at a daycare center in Toronto. It was here that he developed his signature style of storytelling, which involves using exaggerated voices and facial expressions to bring his stories to life.

In 1979, Munsch published his first book, Mud Puddle. It was an instant success and was followed by a string of other popular books, including The Paper Bag Princess (1980), Love You Forever (1986), and A Promise is a Promise (1988).
