Early Career
Italian footballer Pierluigi Casiraghi began his career with Serie B club Monza. At age 16, he debuted in 1985, scoring 28 goals in 94 appearances before attracting the attention of top Italian clubs.
Stardom at Juventus
In 1989, Casiraghi joined Juventus. He made his debut against Milan and spent four seasons with the "Old Lady," winning two UEFA Cups and the Coppa Italia.
Success with Lazio
In 1993, Casiraghi transferred to Lazio. Over five years, he netted 41 goals and lifted another Coppa Italia trophy. However, the arrival of Alen Bokšić and Roberto Mancini as preferred forwards led to Casiraghi's departure.
Premier League Experience and Injury
In 1998, Casiraghi signed for Chelsea in England. In his first season, he suffered a devastating knee injury in a collision with West Ham's Shaka Hislop. Despite multiple surgeries, the injury forced his retirement at age 31.
International Career
Casiraghi earned 44 caps for Italy, scoring 13 goals. He played in the 1994 World Cup and scored twice at the 1996 European Championship. He also scored a crucial goal in a World Cup qualifier against Russia.
Coaching Journey
After retiring, Casiraghi began his coaching career with Monza's youth academy. He later became head coach of Lignano, before returning to Monza and coordinating their youth system.
Italian Youth Teams
In 2006, Casiraghi became head coach of the Italy U-21 team. Under his guidance, the team reached the play-offs at the 2007 European Championship and the semi-finals in 2009. He also led Italy to the quarter-finals of the 2008 Olympics.
Current Roles
Currently, Casiraghi serves as head scout and youth academy coach at Inter Milan. In 2016, he joined Birmingham City's coaching staff under Gianfranco Zola.
